Browsing and Searching Overview

OneSource IT lets you browse or search for the products you need. You can use the Products to browse for products, or you can use the Search function to search the catalog by keyword or part number. (You can also use the Order Status feature to find orders by requisition number or purchase order number. For more information see Searching Orders.)

Should You Search or Browse?

The fastest way to find the product you're looking for depends on what you know about the product.

Browsing the Catalog

The top-level links in the Catalog Menu are product classifications that contain product category submenus. OneSource IT lets you browse the ePlus catalog as described below. (Alternatively, you may browse your organization's Standard Catalog.)

To browse the ePlus Catalog:

1.     Point your mouse at a product classification in the Catalog Menu. The menu expands to display the category submenu.

2.     Click on any category to display a list of items in that portion of the catalog. The item list view is sorted by default according to Best Match. (Best Match ranks items according to a number of "catalog quality" factors, including new products, purchase frequency, last purchase date and data availability.)

The results list provides brief product descriptions. You can point your mouse at a product image to open the Product Description Pop-up window, which displays a larger image and additional product information. Click a product short description to view product details.

Searching the Catalog

OneSource IT lets you search for products by keyword or item ID.

To search for products:

1.     In the Search Box, use the Search By list box to select the type of information by which you want to search:

·         Product Info (keyword)

·         Part #

2.     In the Search text box to the left of the Search By list box, type your search term. If you are searching by product info, enter a keyword that you would expect to find in the product description. If you are searching by Part Number, enter all or part of the product's SKU number.

3.     Click Go. OneSource IT displays a list of search results, sorted by default according to Best Match. (Best Match ranks items according to a number of "catalog quality" factors, including new products, purchase frequency, last purchase date and data availability.)

Note: If you conduct a Product Info search for an item that is not in the catalog, the search results page will display the Non-Catalog Item Request link.

The results list provides brief product descriptions. You can point your mouse at a product image to open the Product Description Pop-up window, which displays a larger image and additional product information. Click on the product short description to view product details.

Results List Overview

After you search or browse the catalog, OneSource IT displays a results list of products that meet your criteria. At the top of the list, OneSource IT displays the number of items in the list, the number of pages spanned by the list, and page links that allow you to navigate through the pages.

The results list includes the following information for each product:

Sorting Results by Brand, SKU # or Price

Searching or browsing generates a list of results that match your criteria. You can sort this list by Brand, SKU # or Price by using the Sort by options at the top of the results list.

To sort your results:

Note: The retail price may differ from the product price for your specific organization.

Refining Your Results

Searching or browsing generates a list of results that match your criteria. You can refine this list, by making selections in the attribute drop-down lists, to "zero in" on the items you are most interested in.

To refine your results:

1.     In the attribute drop-down boxes under Refine Results, select the criteria by which you want to filter your results.

2.     Click Refine in the Refine Results box. The results list is shortened to only those items that match all the criteria you have selected.

3.     To restore the complete results list, click Clear, or select the last link in the "bread crumbs" list above the results list.

 

Product Description Pop-up

Searching or browsing generates a list of results that match your criteria. This list contains brief product descriptions. You can point your mouse at a product image to open the Product Description Pop-up window, which displays a larger image and additional product information.

Linking to Product Details

The short product descriptions that appear in the browsing and searching results lists are hypertext links. Wherever you see these short descriptions (whether in results lists, orders, shopping carts, templates, etc.), you can click the link to go directly to the product details page.

Navigating Multi-Page Result Lists

Browsing and searching will often result in multi-page result lists. OneSource IT lets you keep selected products on the screen as you move through the available result pages.

To keep selected products on-screen as you move through multi-page lists:

1.     Select the check box next to each product you want to keep on-screen. Up to four products can be selected at a time.

2.     Click the page number links to move through the pages. Selected products will be grouped at the top of the listing and appear on every page.  You can even perform a new product search, and selected products will remain at the top of the list for comparison.

3.     Once the desired items have been found and selected, they may be compared by clicking the Compare link at the top of the list.

Comparing Products

In the results list, you can select products from within a single results list, from multiple results lists – even across product categories – and compare them side-by-side. For example, you could compare a notebook computer, a tablet PC, and a desktop computer from three different results lists and different menu categories.

To compare products:

1.    Select the check box next to each product you want to compare. You can compare up to four products at a time. You can select products from the same page, from different pages in a multi-page results list, even from multiple results lists. Your selections will persist and will be grouped at the top of the item listing.

2.     Click Compare at the top of the results listing. The sequential list of products is replaced with a side-by-side comparison view of the products you have selected.

3.     In the comparison view you can:

·         Compare key features and price.

·         Remove items from the comparison view, by clicking the Remove link at the bottom of the product description.

·         Return to your results list by clicking the Return to Search Result link.

To add items to your cart from the comparison view:

1.     Beneath the image of each product you are comparing you will see a quantity box and a shopping cart icon. In the quantity box, type the number of items that you want to add to the shopping cart.

2.     Click the shopping cart icon. The item is added to your cart in the quantity you specified.

3.     The "Items in Cart" number at the top of the screen increments by one each time you add an item (in any quantity).

Note: The "Items in Cart" refers to line items - not individual products.

Product Details

Product Details Overview

The product detail view includes a brief product description as well as Overview, Specs and Accessories tabs, and price and availability (if you have appropriate privileges). You can add the item to your shopping cart from the detail view.

 

To view product details:

1.     Click the short description hyperlink. OneSource IT displays the product detail view. 

2.     From the product detail view you can:

·         Add the product to your shopping cart by clicking the shopping cart icon. The quantity that you specify in the Quantity box is added to your cart each time you click the icon.

·         View product features by clicking the Overview tab.

·         If the product detail includes specifications, you can click the Specs tab to view them.   

·         If the product detail includes compatible accessories, you can click the Accessories tab to view them.

3.     To return to the results list, click the Back To Previous Page hyperlink.

Product Specifications

The Specs tab on the product detail page provides detailed product specifications, including relevant hardware, software, physical dimensions, compatibility, performance, and warranty information.

Accessories

The Accessories tab on the product detail page lists product accessories, including short descriptions, manufacturer, part numbers, and price. You can click the short product description to view details for the accessory.

To add items to your cart from the Accessories tab:

1.     Select the check box for each accessory you want to add to your order.

2.     ClickAdd Checked Items to Cart. By default, one of each selected item is added to the cart.

3.     The "Items in Cart" number at the top of the screen increments by one for each item you add.
